Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is considered a modern classic by many readers and the intellectual community often agrees. It definitely leaves you with much to ponder and many conclusions you could draw from the same ideas. In this way, with the ability to return to it over and over again and see more, it is a classic. Yet, some of the central messages can be construed as teaching wrong ideas or principles. And then there’s the problem of raw, abrasive language, mature concepts and one heart-breaking experience after another. Some love it and some hate it but only time will tell if it lives on as a book that speaks to all humankind.

In my opinion the act of censoring a book is unthinkable, and the experience of seeing a passage removed would create more curiosity towards the removed theme than the theme itself.
When someone reads they bring their own emotions and context to the words, what they experience is unique. I appreciate and understand the overwhelming need to shield the people you care about from sensitive subjects, but it takes much more character to restrain yourself. And in observing that restraint, I believe your audience would have learned a much more important lesson.
